I am seeding arugula, asian greens, cilantro and carrots today. Some say to spray Pam, but we got her some Granite Gear Booties instead. They fall off and are hard to hunt for in the snow, being now about 3 feet deep in places here, but they do seem to work at keeping her more comfortable for longer out there in the white stuff.

The 2009 batches of hot sauce have officially been bottled. Aged in my refrigerator for a year, they have mellowed and blended themselves together. I added a bit more vinegar and used my hand blender to smooth them out a bit, as the texture was a bit chunky for some of them. This is week 20 out of 20 for the CSA and 25/25 for the market. What a feeling of bliss. It is harder and harder to get myself outside on the frosty mornings to dig in that dirt, I tell you. The garlic is cleaned, sorted and planted and the crops are mostly gone. The beets, leeks, celeriac and brussels sprouts are very small, I assume from lack of irrigation and poor nitrogen levels. We got on the trail late on Saturday because Tbird forgot to wake up. That put us behind in our plans, so the first day was sunny and only 6 miles, with Stella and Max both doing great. We have tidied up the sturdy 4' wide rock wall buried by scrub, a red cedar, brambles, a choked spruce being maimed by Bittersweet, honeysuckle and a couple old mini-sheds. All went up in a giant ball of fire. The farm is now officially almost entirely clean,weeded, tidied and ready for winter. Ok, never ready for the heavy blanket of snow, the sleet and ice and frozen nostrils, but willing to dare it to come. The orchard signs are complete, though I still have a couple questions marks.
